Building bulletin: Earthy tones meet industrial design

Finishing touches are now being placed on the first structure at Sycamore Plaza, a two-building mixed-use project with 12 residences and 16,000 square feet of commercial space on Sacramento Drive in San Luis Obispo.
The San Luis Obispobased S&M Development property features modern industrial architecture with bold earth tones, project developer Matt Quaglino said.
Of the two structures at the site, one is a single-story building with 6,000 square feet of commercial space.
The other building is planned to have three stories with commercial space below and residential space above.
Commercial tenants are not yet set, but could include various office-type businesses, Quaglino said.
The two-bedroom living spaces on the second and third stories in the second building are about 1,200 square feet each and have balconies facing west.
Prices for the condominiums – which would be available to buy or rent depending on market factors – have yet to be determined as well, he added.
The property is to have 60 parking spaces, Quaglino added. They are designed to accommodate cars through a business and residential relationship.
“The idea behind the parking at a mixed-use site is residents leave spots open for workers when the leave during the day, and the workers do the same for them after 5 p.m.,” he said.
