2016 Jennifer Thoma Memorial Ballet Scholarship awarded to Morro Bay High School student

A’lia Martin, a freshman at Morro Bay High School, was recently awarded the Jennifer Thoma Memorial Ballet Scholarship of $2,500 to help pay for a six-week summer intensive with the Houston Ballet. The scholarship is administrated by The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County.
Martin, who has been dancing since she was 4 years old, is a member of Dance Fusion, a company at her school, and was at SLO Movement Arts Center last fall. She has been in several productions and is a veteran of three summer intensives, in Chicago, Newton, Mass., and Holland, Mich.
She hopes to become a ballet dancer with a professional dance company.
The scholarship is named after Jennifer Thoma, a longtime San Luis Obispo resident who passed away from cancer in 2012.
