Local ballet dancer awarded 2014 Jennifer Thoma Memorial Ballet Scholarship

KSBY News, April 2014

A local 13-year-old ballet dancer will get to go to an intensive training in San Francisco this summer thanks to the scholarship she just received. Rylie Norby received $2,500 to enhance her training over the summer from the Jennifer Thoma Memorial Ballet Scholarship. Jennifer Thoma died of cancer in 2012. Rylie earned the scholarship in Thoma’s name for her commitment to dance and for maintaining an A-average, even as she devotes about 10 hours a week to dancing.

“I just love how I can express myself through movement, and how I can just be free,” Rylie said. “I just love doing what I do.”

Rylie says she’ll be doing ballet from sunrise to sunset this summer at the training program in San Francisco.
